Hi John,
Thanks for the info on Cyberdefender. I did a quick search and it doesn't appear that Cyberdefender is available for Linux. If you are running Windows, I agree that you really should install some form of anti-virus. I agree also with your point that anti-virus programs often slow down your system. That is another good reason to opt not to use them unless you are running an operating system that is at risk.

I got Cyberdefender after trying some other free programs, but they slowed my system down and a friend of mine told me about Cyberdefender. I really like the Cyberdefender interface, scan times, and that it found what I knew was on the system, including several programs/viruses/trojans that some of the others (PC Tools, SuperAntiVirus and Norton) missed.

I used it as a free scanner which removes spyware and trojans, but you have to upgrade for virus removal. Evenually one came along, it caught it, and I bought the upgrade. Ran Cyberdefender after the upgrade, and virus was gone (it got into my rootkit and also got the vundo virus which it took care of.

I also like that the upgrade I got came with the 24/7 computer help, which was very helpful when my wife had printer problems while I was on a trip. She called them (the 24/7 is not just for malware support, but for any kind of computer issue). They helped her out and had a positive experience with the Cyberdefender help line.

So, this is my experience with Cyberdefender - really good software. Granted, different people have different experiences, but this seems to be a good company (website says they are a NASDAQ company) with a valid product.
